Workshop presentation skills

by Judy Libra, May 31st-June 1st 2007

lecturesThe main goal of the workshop on presentation skills was to learn and practice scientific presentation techniques.  After a theoretical introduction explaining the criteria for a good scientific presentation, the main topics for the next days were determined.

Focus was mainly on structuring complex material and discussion and presentation techniques, for example basics of oral communication and visualisation, rethorical tips for delivery and how to handle questions.

These concepts were practiced during several short improvisation / presentation exercises, individually as well as in small groups.  The performance was analysed with newly introduced evaluation techniques, such as giving and getting feedback.

It can be concluded that the workshop on presentation skills provided a broad array of useful hints and suggestions to improve scientific presentation structure, performance and delivery. The workshop was very practically oriented, and was highly valued by all fellows.
