Fouling control in a household MBR plant (MBR-14)

August 2006 - July 2009

What my project is about

The aim of the project is to develop a domestic MBR plant available for decentralised wastewater treatment from small pollution sources. I will work with different commercially available membrane modules and test them in terms of permeability, fouling, cleaning, regeneration, let's say in terms of suitable operational ways. In the first phase fouling control will be investigated under the laboratory conditions and the optimal membrane for modelling will be chosen. Then pilot-scale and finally full-scale household MBR plant will be realised.

Where I work and live

The project is hosted by Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic Brno lies in the central part of Europe, in the Czech Republic of which it is the second largest city. At the same time, it represents the centre of the province of Moravia, one of the historic lands of the Czech Crown. It is situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes which have joined the North and South European civilizations for centuries.

Motivation

I applied because the topic and aim of the research project MBR-TRAIN seems very interesting and relevant to me. My environmental and chemical knowledge equips me with a sound background. Nonetheless I am eager to learn more about the technological aspects of membrane bioreactors. Furthermore, I like the well organised and structured training programme as well as the exchange of fellows between the participating institutions.
