What my project is about

The project deals with control of pilot scale household / domestic and small container (approx. 100 P.E.) WWTP with membrane filtration. At pilot scale MBR household WWTP in Olsany a new membrane module was installed in 2009 with the aim to increase retention volume in activation, to optimize flux of treated water and to prolong an operation of MBR unit without chemical regeneration. We expect a lot of results which are interesting mainly from practical point of view and which will help the designer and operator of membrane filtration WWTP.

Where I work and live

The project is realized at Institute of Municipal Water Management, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology in Czech Republic. Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. The town is located in the southeast part of the country, at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers. The city is a political and cultural hub of the South Moravian Region. Due to its location between the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the Southern Moravian lowlands, Brno has a moderate climate.


Being member of this MBR-TRAIN project is a unique opportunity to obtain new and interesting results under real operational condition of domestic and small containerised MBR plant. This fellowship will complete my PhD investigations at my home university. Furthermore, the results will hopefully bring forward the scientific discussion about decentralised wastewater treatment in the Czech Republic.
